The city of Houston celebrates Citizenship month in the November. This year marks five years of community engagement that has resulted in a month’s long of events to commemorate the diverse population of Houston.
Citizenship month is a collaboration of community volunteers and the Mayor’s office.
“Houston is a city that embraces diversity and civic engagement,” said Mayor Parker. “Ours is a community built on dreams powered by hard work, guided by common sense and inspired by creativity. We respect the rights and responsibilities of good citizenship.”
The month which use to be a week resulted from a recommendation from members of the International Communities Advisory Council and community organizations.
There will many events that are social, economic and civic minded as they all will centralize arounf the diverse population of the city.
“My administration is proud to champion the celebration of Houston’s diversity through this annual event,” said Parker.
The events are to spark awareness about citizenship as an American and Houstonian. Programs are encouraged to enhance citizenship and civic engagement amongst the vast population of international citizens and non-citizens of Houston.
