2013 Mayoral and City Council election results

Election day is over and the results are in. Mayor Annise Parker secured her seat for another two more years as she beat out eight other candidates. Ben Hall served as her biggest contender but she won by 50,337 votes. Parker received 97,165 votes total to Halls 46,828.

District A will have a run off as incumbent city councilmember Helena Brown came out with 1,077 more votes than Brenda Stardig. Brown had a total of 4,622 votes to Stardig’s 3,545.

District B kept their city councilmember Jerry Davis. Davis won by 4,506 votes over Kathy Blueford Daniels. Davis received 7,255 votes to Daniels 2,749.

Ellen Cohen ran opposed in District C and received 23,824 votes.

District D had 12 candidates run for office. The top three contenders were Assata Richards, Dwight Boykins and Georgia Provost. Richards earned 1,883 votes, Boykins 7,379 votes and Provost 2,475. There will be a run off in District D between Boykins and Provost.

Dave Martin ran unopposed in District E earning 11,913 votes.

There will be a change in seats in District F as incumbent councilmember Al Hoang lost to Richard Nguyen by 194 votes. Nguyen received 3,160 votes to Hoang’s 2,966 votes.

Oliver Pennington retained his seat in District G, as he beat out opponent Brian Taef with 13,909 votes. Pennington received 17,554 votes to Taef’s 3,645 votes.

District H’s councilmember Ed Gonzales ran unopposed and received 7,181 votes.

District I will receive a new councilmember after a run off. There were four contenders for this seat and their numbers were all close in proximity. Leticia Gutierrez Ablaza received 1,976 votes, Robert Gallegos 2,144, Graci Garces 2,317 and Ben Mendez 2,119. Gallegos and Garces will compete again during the run off election.

District J’s councilmember Mike Laster ran unopposed and earned 3,894 votes.

District K’s councilmember Larry Green ran unopposed and earned 10,702 votes.

Councilmember Stephen Costello won his At Large Position 1 again over Mike Griffin with 27,593 votes. Costello earned 77,100 votes to Griffin’s 49,507.

There will be a run off in both At Large Position 2 and 3 seats. At Large Position 2 councilmember Andrew Burks will face off with David Robinson as Robinson earned 4,149 more votes than Burks. Robinson received 49,667 votes total to Burks 45,518 votes.
